THE STORY SO FAR....

Gary Hubber’s 2025 album New Tricks marked a defining chapter—an album shaped by reflection, resilience, and the quiet realisations that come with time. Built on ringing guitars, steady rhythms, and lyrics that favour feeling over flash, the record drew warm praise and helped cement Hubber as a familiar and compelling presence on Melbourne stages, where he now performs regularly.

At the heart of New Tricks is “Rise, Shine, and Fly,” a song written as a kind of message back through time. In 2025 it was voted one of the Top Five Songs of the Year by the Real Songwriters of Melbourne, a nod from peers who recognise the power of a song that speaks plainly and lands honestly.

AND NOW?

My new album, “A Dangling Thread” explores what it means to stay engaged with life in the face of uncertainty. The album opens with the first single, “Running from the Light,” (released in February) a song that hears talk of final destinations and chooses to keep moving instead — a quiet refusal to live as though the ending has already been written.

From there, the second single, “People Are Strange” widens the lens, turning outward to recognise the oddities and differences that shape human experience, and suggesting that understanding begins with curiosity rather than judgement. It was released on Friday 3 April - Yes, it's OUT NOW - please take a listen.

The entire album is set for a late May release.  At its heart, “A Dangling Thread” is about living with uncertainty — and choosing action, connection, and self-belief anyway.

Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks?
